Shelter In Place

A shelter in place order may be given in situations where it is safer to hold occupants indoors than to allow them to leave  the premises. External emergencies such as a near by chemical spill, tropical storm, or civil disturbance are the most likely scenarios to require a shelter in place order.

Remain calm and provide assistance as direct and/or necessary
  • Continue with regular work activities if able to do so
  • Stay away from doors and windows - you may be asked to move to a more secure area within the building
  • Follow direction from ECO members and emergency services
  • You may be asked to help manage movement of staff and public
Chief Warden/Building Manager responsibilities
  • Monitor the situation and turn off air handling equipment if necessary
  • Manage BMS to lock-down entries to building as required
  • Stop all hot work, electrical work and anything else that could threaten the safety of building occupants until situation is resolved
  • Communicate updates regularly to keep occupants calm
